I hatched a Wellsummer cockerel first week of January this year. It is on the smallish side and is constantly sitting down. It looks lethargic most of the time. While the other chicks have grown bigger and heavier, he is almost the same size for the last 6 weeks or so. He does walk around and eat and drink. He has a dirty bum from doing his business sitting down. I have wormed all of the birds but this has not improved his condition.
Does anyone have any ideas on what else I can do to improve his health?

I had an Australorp who wasn't doing so good so I gave him 1/2 a ml of Sulphadim with an equal amount of water everynight when he was asleep for 5 days and he's never looked back. I used a very small syringe and squirted it down his throat

Any pictures of these birds? Always good when they settle in quickly. I have a hen that experienced a fox attack. She has been a bit of a nut case ever since.

Sounds like you need to put together a few more brooders. As of this morning, 8 hatched, 1 pipping, 1 died. The rest, no action yet. Very happy with the result.

Sounds like Canker....suggest you try Malt Vinegar &/or Potassium Permanganate...((from chemist/vet supplies)... or a form of it...the chooks version!... ( not guru, just a cheap suggestion..)..:-) :-)

One of my Light Sussex chicks is developing a problem with it's leg. One leg is going out sideways. The knee joint is pointing inwards. Is there any way to fix this? I am trying the bandaid method to try to bring the leg back to the correct position. It doesn't seem to be working. Other than the leg the chick is doing fine. Growing nicely.

Not good news. I'll give it a few more days to see if the bandaid will help. It is day 2 with the bandaid. It hatched fine. Not too sure what caused this problem.
