I have been reading up on different chicken feeding ideas for the last couple of days and have noticed that there is quite a few people feeding Muesli type horse feeds to their chooks. They claim that the different grains and legumes with molasses and vitamin/minerals does wonders for their chooks. Could this be correct or a dangerous idea?

I wouldn't think that anything that is ok for horses would be bad for chooks?
I know my chooks love to scratch around whatever drops out of horsies feed bucket ;D

Our chooks will eat anything that moves (and if it stands still, more the better!) Our Light Sussex are like old ladies who have to look at everything and since we have acquired a pony they have been so busy checking her out and more importantly to them, what she eats. It's survival of the craftiest if she gets a mash feed - the chooks can smell it a mile off and they appear from everywhere. They are now back into the sheep pellets as well as we've started bulking up our rams for joining. My husband often finds an egg or 3 in the hopper under the silos. So I think the moral of the story is whatever doesn't kill them, makes them better layers?!

I see no reason why they should not eat it just make sure that the protein is up to standard I know my chooks if they get the chance will steal from the dogs food and run off as fast as the road runner keep in mind they a chook will eat almost anything dead or alive given the chance Trev
