Hi , I am after some fertile chicken eggs in the Albany area, RIR, laced wyandotte (any) orpington or australorp (preferably lavender with this one). I have two of these hens one is a cross the other isn't and both are very young yet. I have a mixed flock and am trying different breeds to see what suits us. The welsummers I have go broody at the drop of a hat unfortunately. Anyone on here with these breeds in this area? Have looked in the breeders directory which is sadly lacking and doesn't appear to have had anything added to since it was opened with those 3 entries in 2009.
Many thanks Kitty

Hi kitty my Welsummers are great birds they do not go broody they are one of my favourite breeds, now RIR yes mine go broody even during a warm winter a few years ago one girl came back into lay in July then wanted to hatch out the eggs. I also find light sussex go broody as well I find the heavier breeds can go broody, dont give up on Welsummers try a different blood line, Sorry I cannot help with eggs I am the other side of perth and a bit further. goodluck Regards mardy
