Hi everyone I am wanting to give my sandy chook run a good clean to get rid of any nasties in the soil and I have heard you can you use lime dust. Can anyone give me some advice and instructions on how to do this! I am also interested in knowing what other folk use to freshen up their well used chook runs as I want the soil to be healthy enough to run this seasons chicks on. Cheers Linda

HI Linda Yep I do as I have dirt floors, I use lime to clean them up. I scrape all the messy bits and a small layer of the top dirt and compost it, to this I scratch the surface then put the lime on the top of the floor then the bedding on top, the chooks will do the rest. I have never had a trouble with mites or anything else for that matter. The only time I have had trouble is with a brought in rooster with leg mites soon got shot of that and it has not returned good luck Trev

i think you need to use gardener's lime, not builders lime as builders lime is very alkaline.
