can any one give me some advice on one of my hens. She looks ok, comb is red, but she is listless and closes her eyes. She is eating, not a lot. I noticed this about 4 days ago. Any ideas??

I am having same trouble with my Jap bantam rooster.
Found him on the floor of the pen, very cold and unwell. Normally he's trotting around, chasing the ladies and generally thinking he's bigger than Ben Hur but since Monday he's scarily sedate. Thought it might be because we had a mini-dust storm (again) Sunday, then cold, wet and rainy that night and he may have gotten too cold.
Have been giving him warmed oats in milk, shredded vegies and dashes of apple cider vinegar, which normally perks them right up but not this time. I wormed them all last night, so hoping that may have been his worry.
We have lost a lot of sheep in the last month from calcium deficiency, is this a problem in chooks too? Thought shellgrit would provide some calcium? We have finally had some rain so the wait is on for some green pick to come through for sheep and poultry alike.
This year is proving to be a heartbreaker already.
Please, anyone got any ideas?

pick up the birds and feel their keel..............is it thin and pointy? that could indicate that the bird has not been well for a while, birds are very good at hiding sickness.
cold weather can put a dampener on them...........smell their breath, does it smell jus tchooky or does it smell yucky? this could be asign of a cold or a sinus infection.
i would take them inside and put them into a warm box, with food and water. if there is no improvement i would take them to a vet..............if there is an infection antibiotics may help.
