Was interested on what other did or doesn,t matter.
I have a young australorpe and I was sold a brown leghorn (not sure) that are the same age 23 weeks old what to feed them to help them lay a bit earlier. Some one said a tin of sardine or tuna now and then. what do you think..Another crushed lupine.

Since we had a crappy year with sod all rain last year, and this one's looking about the same level of crappiness, have been feeding girls fish bones and off cuts from brother's fishing expeditions and egg production has gone up quite a bit. Crushed lupins do help. Have found little buggers hooking into the sheep pellets too so that may be a help (my husband will go right off if he finds them in the hopper again). They are compressed grains and hay so doesn't hurt them.

Canola, Fish meal, or meat meal. Bran, and pollard with wheat on the side and a green salad left over's from the kitchen or weeds makes for a healthy mob of chooks and loads of eggs. High protein even more this time of year and when it gets cold I serve it to them all warm and tuck them up in there little beds for the night seems to work for me, Boy did they lay some eggs this year looking forward to it all starting over again although they have never stopped compleatly good luck Trev

Mine get a mix of soaked wheat ,Super Poultry, and (3 day for max absorbable protien) Sprouted Wheat, oats, corn and lupins & occ sunflower . I also give them in the mix lucerne chaff soaked in molasses Extra meat meal at this time of year and a very small amount of cod liver oil once a week (you must be careful with cod liver oil . :-/To much can harm the liver)but a little is great for extra omegas and vits . Greens or extra sprouts in the afrernoon

its not good for the development of the bird to encourage early laying..............its great for you though lol. its better to feed teh birds up to enable them to grow to their full potential and then start laying. early layers dont' tend to be as healthy or reach their full potential
