Hi Everyone Well the eggs have all but dried up. The girls are beginning to moult. This seems a bit earlier than usual. But last year the change in seasons have played a big part in my egg production. What is a good home made recipe for giving the girls some extra protien into their diet. Cheers Linda

Mine are also moulting, I have a couple that are almost bald. Egg production is 0 for the big pen and maybe 1 a day from the bantams. Will not buy any though!

Hi Shea, One of our 1st girls is losing feathers from the head down!! I assume this is because she is going into moult?? Is it right that she loses condition too?? Is there anything I should supplement with??

I found they eat alot then perch and sleep alot at the moment maybe thats why their regrowing feathers so fast and its cold?

Ok!! She only started to lose feathers last week. To begin with I wasn't sure which one it was, but after a good look today I now know... I wouldn't say she was bald but definitely thinning around her head & neck, I am pretty sure that you can see the new feathers coming thru... I can't see any sight of mites etc (although I did spray them all today), they are all wormed & have apple cider vinegar in their water. They free range most of the day, have Layer Crumble, this week they have had tinned corn, cheese, rocket. They tend not to be interested in too many scraps... Age wise she would have been point of lay around Feb....

As far as all that goes shes fine. They most times stop laying during molt no big deal. Its just time probably 2 1/2 months and shel look pretty again? Depends a lot on what kind of chicken she is to if its a hi line or isa brown shel be finished in a month if a heavy featherd breed like wyanadotte then 3months maybe more.
