Hi all I am so lucky this year I have not lost a chook because of the heat, nearly lost the RIR roo, but wet him down and he survived it. He would be 8 in May this year and still going they do have treed runs and loads of cover but it still gets hot. So I let them have it with the hose or turn on there retic system for them, this wets all the yard, they dig away in it that drops the temperature down loads I also wet down there house take the heat out of the tin that last for a long time any one do it differently Trev

I put the sprinkler on them when they are hot and they love it. The other day one of the bantams just stood under it a wet mess of feathers

I have retic in all my pens which water under fruit trees and plants which the chooks can stand under and scratch around under to get cool. They particularly love the low hanging fruit trees with the water wetting the leaves as well as the ground. I have found damp soil and water containers with stepping stones or pavers in them for chooks to stand in keeps them cool. I have never lost a chook or chick in the heat so must be doing something right.

I must admit I have had a few give up in the hotter weather but only the older chooks even with a retic system and the trees for shade in there pens they tend to give up on life just as well its not that often it would cost you a fortune to replace all your stock each year Trev
