Hi Everyone Last week I was out at the Clucky Hen picking up a lavender Araucana and I saw in their brooder boxes that they have the horse feed mixture of cut lucerene and chaff on the bottom of their brooder floor. I asked about how well it works and they said they found it great and the little ones can eat the lucerene. What do you all think of this method? and what do you use on your broody floor area. I went into City Farmers and they charge $31 for a large bag. I pay $28 for wood shavings. Food for thought. ha,ha Cheers Linda

I use wood shavings as well I see nothing wrong with chaff if you can do your own or get it at a better price it will do the job stopping them slipping and sliding and getting splayd legs why not Trev

I did use a bag of chaff for some of my broodies and found it to work well. Would you beleive, my Aunty and Uncle were driving along and a bag fell off the back of a truck so they stopped and picked it up and delivered it to me
