Anyone have a cheap source of chook wire? Buying it from our local hardware seems expensive and they usually have the half-height rolls, not the full height.

Have you tried DJ Palmer or Direct trade Supplies? They both advertise their prices in the Farm Weekly.

DTS is cheaper but be aware that you could be buying cheap, light Chinese wire! If you have your poultry in a small suburban yard with secure fencing, it's fine but if you are trying to protect them from fox, cat or dogs in rural areas then you need to bite the bullet. My Dad bought the Chinese stuff and it's been nothing but trouble. He's ended up buying the same amount again because it breaks with the smallest amount of strain. You do only get what you pay for. Speaking of fencing - anyone offering to help us fence a few 25kms?

I've had trouble with poor quality wire which rusts at ground level and even in patches above the ground. Trouble was it asn't cheap! Thanks for the advice. I'll make enquiries at DTS and DJ Palmer and a couple of agricultural suppliers I know in Albany. Mike
