Well we now have nine little chickens One thing we were wondering was is it normal for bantams and araucanas to hatch at 18 days as ours did? We were certainly taken by surprise

sometimes an early hatch means that the temperature is a bit high, but as quambie says some bantams can hatch earlier, but not usually 3 days early. on the other hand, babies come out when they are ready, and 21 days is the average hatching time.

Well we are now down to our last three eggs..but quite happy with the success rate so far. We lost one that didnt make its way out of the egg..another two we candled and must have died recently (not full term). We are now hatching our Australorps so might have to look at the temperature since they werent due till Tuesday...but they all look good thank god...will post photos shortly

The times I have had early chicks is when working with a incorrect thermometer and the temp got to 38 ... / As Jackie says they should be hatched between 37-37.5 for best result's . Some incubators say to set higher (re the thermostat )but that is so the level the eggs sit will be at 37.5 .
Bantams sometimes hatch 8-12 hours earlier but usually the same day . look forward to photos
