Have a guinea fowl been sitting on about 40 eggs in the bush for nearly three months! Took a random sample and found they are all infertile which makes me think I sold all the boys by mistake that last time. Never seen one as determinedly clucky as this one. Probably if they hatched she'd desert them. Wonder if I get some fertile ones from another fancier she'd continue sitting on them. Probably not. They are contrary creatures. Still have one that thinks it's a chook and roosts with the hens. Tried pushing it together with the others but it just runs back to the hens. Maybe I''ll find some male birds to put with this lot. Oh decisions..decisions... it's a hard life!

Caught her off the nest yestyerday and raided the nest. She saw me doing it and flew at me, wings wide. I scrambled to safety with my hat full of eggs. All were infertile and rotten. Hoping she'll start laying again and I can find the new nest so I can get to the eggs while they are fresh. Also going to get some fertile eggs from a friend and swap them over so she can hatch something.

Wow...determined little blighters....I have had a chooks like that will just keep sitting till something hatches or I steal the eggs or replace them with fertile one....Had to make sure that she gets off for food and water though or the poor thing would starve to death

Found another empty GF nest today with ten eggs in, but they look as if they are months old. I suspect they've been laying infertile eggs all round the place and then deserting them. Will try to catch them right after they lay this time. It all makes life interesting. The one who thinks its a chook got left out of the pen last night and just roosted on top of the gate until I went and let it in this morning!

Since I raided that nest I have found eggs just lying around the place, on the lawn, in a flower bed, along a path in the bush. Can't find another nest anywhere. Guineas are such contrary birds.
