Thanks guys, so far we have 8 hatched and 6 pipping. I can't wait until they fluff up and so I can see their true colours. As usual some look silver but usually turn out smoky yellow, but there is one that is possibly looking, dare I say, buffish? Not holding my breath it may just turn out another white.....will know shortly.

Not looking so buff now, darn....oh well. I now have 10 hatched and four pipping. Some of the new chicks have great middle toe feathering, the best I have hatched so far. It will be interesting to see if they keep it. I tried, and failed, to take some pictures of some of the new additions to show their toes. I have asked Shelle to try tomorrow. Gee I am hopeless at taking photo's. It is so frustrating.

You will have to do what Jacquie suggested and try and keep some of the chicks that started out with the middle toe feathering for your breeding programme, even if they lose it as they get older you know at least somewhere in there makeup is a 3rd toe feathering gene and it can only get better. Good Luck

Thats was what I was thinking of Judy too. I will check today Steph for bearded, there was one white last night that was looking a bit like it had a beard, today when they have all fluffed up I will have a good look and get Shelle to take some pictures, I am hopeless..lol.
Anyway the hatch is over, 14 little chicks, consisting of 6 white and the rest dark colours. The other 7 where either infertile or DIS.
So the winner is......Rap.....well done guys. Better luck for the next hatch

Thats great Tina My black shrimani chickie (whos still a pretty clean black btw yay!) is bearded. Hoping its a boy now, its at that 'could go either way' stage so fingers crossed. The silver/grey is also bearded, lil darling has a deformed beak but that doesnt worry me. Oh, and the buff is a pullet, yay! so I can pair her with my buff roo. Not that he's the best specimen but its a start

I know what you mean about the buffs, mine have too much red in them, but you have to start somewhere. I am hoping the lot of eggs I got from NT will have a buff or two. They did not travel well and cost me $40 for express post, I am still reeling. Lots have air bubbles. But if they hatch wow, they will be great. They are due about the 4th, the lady said they do no go for 21 days more like 19 to 20. Bit like my silkies, never go the full 21 days. I presumed that express would be around $15 to $20 max, she had already posted them before I paid for them and it was $40 PLUS $2.95 for the box. Aust post really saw me coming. Unfortunately 3 broke and 1 had a chip which I put wax on. I have a feeling it is going to be a poor hatch, which is such a shame. Her silkies are magnificent too. I am really looking forward to seeing the hatch from Princess. She is a lovely girl. I am now looking for a good quality black rooster, so if you see one, please let me know.

What a shame that they travelled badly. Sounds like she didnt pack them very well if 3 managed to break. Hopefully the one that you've put wax on will come through. I waxed a chip on an egg a while back but obviously the air could still get in coz it went bad. Luckily I smelt it! Mind you, it was under a hen so her moving it around may well have rubbed some of the wax off. Next time I have a small crack in an egg I'm gunna try clear nail polish and see how that goes. Oh, and I will keep my eye out for a black roo

Thanks Steph that would be great. Good blacks are so hard to get and I have two three generation black hens so I thought they would be a great foundation for breeding blacks. Plus the added bonus of being able to breed him to the blues and splashes. Whites are also very readily available so if I get excess males unfortunately it is hard to rehome them, now if they were blacks.....different story.
